Octagon & Dot with a Norwood 120 mm Border
Octagon & Dot combines octagonal field tiles with small square dots. A Norwood 120 mm border frames the layout, giving the centre of the floor a defined edge. It is a combination to consider for a verandah, front path, entrance or hallway.
Understand the three parts of the design
The octagons create the main field, the dots provide a repeating accent, and the border frames the whole area. Choose these elements together rather than treating the border as an addition after the tile quantities have been calculated.
Before finalising your selection, work through these design choices:
- Field colour: choose the octagon colour in relation to the brickwork, wall finish and other fixed surfaces around the floor.
- Dot colour: a stronger contrast makes the repeating squares more noticeable; a closer colour pairing creates a quieter effect.
- Norwood border: allow for the proposed 120 mm border when planning the area available for the octagon field.
- Corner details: decide how the border turns and meets each doorway, column or change in direction.
- Grout: compare the grout colour with both the octagons and the dots, and choose a product suitable for the location.
- Samples: review the actual colours together in the light at your home before confirming the order.

Planning Your Octagon & Dot Floor
Good measurements and a clear layout help ensure the border and field fit the space together.
- Measure the field and border together
Send the overall dimensions and a sketch showing the intended border. The main pattern needs to fit within the remaining area, with cuts considered at both sides.
- Check the corners and doorways
Include photographs of thresholds, corners, columns and any curved sections. These details help determine where to start the pattern and how the border should finish.
- Coordinate steps and adjoining surfaces
If the floor meets steps or existing paving, discuss the finished levels and edge details as part of the quote. We can include stone steps in the project discussion where required.
- Request a project-specific quote
Costs depend on the area, tile choices, layout and preparation involved. Specify whether you need supply only or supply and installation, and include your suburb or delivery location.
Federation Tiles Factory manufactures tiles in-house, with installation across Sydney and Newcastle and supply Australia-wide. Request an Octagon & Dot quote with your photos, measurements and preferred colours.
